Yifan Wang presents poster at IDWeek 2023 – Clinical Outcomes of Candida auris Infections at an Academic Medical Center
Candida auris is a globally emerging fungus with a high case fatality rate, but there is a paucity of data evaluating the prevalence and outcomes associated with this organism. The purpose of our study is to evaluate the characteristics and clinical outcomes in patients with C. auris isolation at UIC. We screened for hospitalized patients who had a positive culture with C. auris between October 2020 and December 2021. A total of 27 patients were included. We observed that the vast majority of our institutional isolates were susceptible to all three classes of antifungals. We also calculated a 30-day case fatality of 45.5% (5/11) in patients with fungemia, despite optimal treatment with Micafungin.
